Landlocked countries in Western Africa, Burkina Faso and Niger are majority Muslim nations. Among the themes of Pope Benedict xvis remarks to the bishops was the need to continue efforts at evangelization, engagement in interreligious dialogue to strengthen bonds of esteem, friendship and collaboration between all components of society. The Pope also discussed the need for permanent formation of the clergy and laity. The Holy Father also called on the bishops to continue to draw strength and inspiration from the recent Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Africa.
