Mr. Cassady asked how long the zoning commission hearings ran in general. Mr. Gladman said they usually last at least two hours. Mr. Cassady said the trustee review of the Zoning Commission minutes is done very seriously and the trustees respect the autonomy of the Commission and would never want to interfere with their autonomy. However, Mr. Cassady did feel compelled to comment on the Commission, from the standpoint of the disjointed nature of the deliberation which occurs by the Zoning Commission. Based on what he has read in the minutes, there doesnt seem to be any organization at all. It jumps from issue to issue, theres no flow, its not concise. The deliberations can be repetitive at times, many times questions are asked twice. It would appear to him that there is a general lack of preparation. These hearings seem to run long, although he is not there. His plea is that he would like to see a higher level of professionalism, organization, and he would like to see better efficiency. He would also like to see the overarching zoning function rise to a higher level. Its not based on the subject application, it is based on his experience and the product which he has received over the course of the last four years as trustee.
