Walking off the plane, my legs felt like jelly. You know that feeling, where youve been sitting down to long? And then your voice sounds funny when you are finally able to make a word come out of your mouth. Tung tied. Those are the only words to fit whats happening. One look at him and it breaks my heart. His hair is no longer combed to perfection; instead it is now sticking in all directions. His nicely pressed cloths have been replaced with loose wrinkly hanging cloths. His deep green eyes, no longer held that adorable glow to them, but now held dark gloomy images. Dark bags hung under his eyes, while light black and blue spots swayed across his memorable face. His tallness defiantly made him stand out from the shorter people seated. His sleeves were rolled unevenly to his elbows. His hands were stuffed awkwardly in his front pockets. He was more of a mess then I had imagined. Is it true? I finally asked. What? He asked back avoiding eyes contact. The drug charges I retorted back. He rubbed his hand on the back of his neck then let his hands travel to his hair as he moved them around to even more awkward position. He didnt answer, he didnt have to. I wanted to cry. Beside what everyone told me, there was small place in my head where I believed it wasnt true, where they were all lying about him, that he was still the same Derek.
