The magnitude of the global economic crisis has raised a number of questions on the performance of the media, particularly that of the business media. It seemed as if the markets and the financial institutions were moving in the direction of a deep abyss without any warnings. What was business media doing during this period? Even as the crisis was hitting its nadir in the US and spreading to the rest of the world, it was as if the media were as surprised by the events as were others. Why did the media, which were so engrossed in the happenings in the corporate world all these years, fail to see what was coming? Why did they have to content with merely giving the news of bankruptcies, market collapse and figures of unemployment? There is a view that some media organizations chose not to reveal the truth on the crisis either because of sever censorship controls or because they felt telling the truth might exacerbate the crisis further. There is a counterview that the media were so awestruck by the glitter of the corporate world that they lost their sense of criticality. Where was the international business media in the run up to the crisis? Were the business media so awe-struck by the big corporate that they lost their ability to critically analyze?
