Part 1 of 40. Extensive audio footage from WBAP-Radio in Fort Worth, Texas, chronicling the last day of President John F. Kennedy's life -- November 22, 1963. This 40-part series starts at 7:00 AM (Texas time) on the morning of Friday, 11/22/63, and continues through the late afternoon hours. President Kennedy's two speeches in Fort Worth are covered in detail, and the terrible news that JFK has been shot by an assassin in downtown Dallas reaches the WBAP audience at approximately 12:40 PM (in Part 19 of this series). The station shared time with Dallas stations WFAA and WRR. The dual frequency-sharing arrangement between WBAP and WFAA [at 570 and 820 on the AM radio dial] continued through the 1950s and 1960s, with the stations switching frequencies several times a day. When WBAP changed frequencies, it signaled the change with a cowbell, which became widely associated with the station.
